Gastro-Intestinal

Gastro Intestinal Surgery is relatively common surgery in the veterinary world.

The most common reason for surgery is to remove a wide variety of foreign objects that the animals tend to eat. These objects often get stuck somewhere along the intestinal tract, causing blockages and possible perforations.

Bowel resections (removal of section of the bowel) are also fairly common due to intestinal tumors.

Cats often eat thread and get what is called ‘String Gut’. In these cases it is not unusual to have to open the length of bowel up in several places to remove all of the sections of linear foreign body.

Trauma from automobile accidents or fights with other animals, frequently require repairs to the abdominal organs.
